DKZ’s agency has officially addressed the reports of Kyoungyoon’s parents’ affiliation with the JMS cult spotlighted in the recent documentary “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal.”

“In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” is a new documentary series exposing four cult leaders and their horrifying practices. One of the cults covered in the series is JMS Providence (also known as the Christian Gospel Mission), founded by leader and convicted rapist Jung Myung Seok, who is described as having groomed and sexually exploited many of his young female followers.

In the wake of the documentary’s popularity, a list of addresses allegedly affiliated with the JMS cult began spreading online, and one in particular drew attention for being the address of a café run by Kyoungyoon’s parents.

On the evening of March 7, Dongyo Entertainment released the following statement in response to the reports:

First, we would like to apologize to everyone who must have felt discomfort because of the content posted on an online community today.

Regarding the business run by DKZ member Kyoungyoon’s family that is currently being discussed online and on social media, after checking with Kyoungyoon and his family, it turns out that before receiving tip-offs from many people and seeing the content of the [docuseries], he believed that the organization in question was simply an ordinary church that his parents were attending, and he had never come across or been aware of the information in the [docuseries].

As soon as Kyoungyoon learned the truth today, he personally checked the content of the [docuseries] and was unable to contain his horror. The business that was run by his family immediately ceased operations, and after checking all aspects regarding the organization in question, they also left the church at the same time. We are also informing you in no uncertain terms that they will have no association with [the organization] moving forward.

As someone whose job involves receiving a lot of love, [Kyoungyoon] feels deeply apologetic about the fact that he was not able to properly scrutinize matters related to him. Although ignorance is no excuse, he never had the slightest desire to act in the interest of the organization in question or defend its crimes, so we ask that you refrain from excessive speculation or mentions.

Once again, we apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable due to this matter, and our agency will also support [Kyoungyoon] so he can become an artist who more carefully examines his surroundings and all matters related to him.

  1. Korean pop star felt “horror” concerning his parents ties to rapist cult leader. But it looks like his family helped the cult financially for some time.
