MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino-Canadian conspiracy theorist who has spent years building a devoted online following while calling herself the “Queen of Canada” was arrested last week along with 15 supporters during a police raid in rural Saskatchewan.
Romana Didulo was taken into custody on September 3 when police officers raided a former school building in Richmound where she and her followers had been living for two years. The arrest followed reports that someone at the compound possessed firearms.
All 16 people were initially released September 4, but Didulo and Ricky Manz — the owner of the property of the former elementary school in Richmound — were rearrested the same day after allegedly violating their release conditions by contacting each other, according to a CBC News report.
Didulo now faces multiple charges, specifically failure to comply with undertaking conditions and intimidation of a justice system participant in connection with the ongoing investigation in Richmound.
The arrests are the latest development in a years-long saga involving one of Canada’s most prominent QAnon figures, whose online influence has reportedly translated into real-world confrontations with authorities and dangerous behavior typical of followers of cult-like groups.
Who is Romana Didulo?
According to her own accounts and official records, Didulo was born in the Philippines in November 1974. The website of the political party she founded in 2020 — the Canada1st Party — states she immigrated to Canada in 1990 as a teenager after losing both parents by age 11.
Didulo emerged as a prominent QAnon figure around 2020 before gradually claiming increasingly grandiose titles. She has claimed to be everything from a political party leader to self-proclaimed “Queen of Canada” and eventually “Queen of the World.”
