Some of you may remember our interview with historian Larry Eskridge in Episode 113 of The Way of Improvement Leads Home Podcast. Larry is our foremost authority on the Jesus People and he is the author of God’s Forever Family: The Jesus People Movement in America (Oxford University Press, 2013). Larry was on the podcast to provide some historical context for Greg Laurie’s movie, “Jesus Revolution.”
Today at his Facebook page, Larry introduces us to an amazing collection of Jesus People photographs. I’ll let him explain:
For those of you interested in the early history of the Jesus People movement: the Children of God (COG) (later “The Family”) were one of the largest components of the movement who, under their leader, David “Moses” Berg, quickly became involved in controversial teachings and practices that put the group well outside the realm of Christian orthodoxy. The link will take you to an absolute goldmine of photographs recently brought to our attention (H/T Jose de Segovia) spanning much of the history of the COG, including their earliest days in Huntington Beach, CA. A number of the photos have descriptive captions.
