The Ogun State Police Command says it has begun a manhunt for a fleeing leader of the Eiye confraternity simply identified as Lekan following a police raid of their hideout in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
This is just as the police said it arrested four members of the confraternity during a secret cult meeting on Sunday.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, in a telephone interview with PUNCH Online on Monday, disclosed that the wanted cult leader has been on the watch list of the police following his alleged involvement in a murder case currently being investigated by the command.
Odutola stated that the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence that they were holding a secret cult meeting which prompted the Divisional Police Officer in the area to mobilise his men, storm the venue and arrest four persons.
However, Lekan who is also known as Babalawo and acclaimed to be the leader of the cult group in the area, was said to have escaped during the clampdown.
The PPRO said, “An exceptional and tech-driven operation has resulted in the successful arrest of criminals terrorising Ifo Local Government Area on May 19 at about 1020hrs.
“Intelligence indicated that staunch members of Eiye confraternity, headed by one Lekan a.k.a. Babalawo, as their ‘number one’ were gathered at Fada area, Alaja having their secret cult meeting.
