New leads emerge in search for missing Berkeley cult members as police track TikTok account

BERKELEY, Mo. — More than two and a half years after six people disappeared from a Berkeley home in a case police say is connected to a religious or spiritual cult, investigators tell 5 On Your Side they are now chasing a new lead they hope will finally reveal where the group went.
That lead comes from a TikTok profile picture believed to show one of the missing women.
Major Steve Runge, who has worked the case since the beginning, said detectives are now trying to obtain user data from the social media platform.
“So the latest information we have is a TikTok photograph surfaced of one of the girls that’s missing, and we are in the process of serving a TikTok with a search warrant to identify that user, an IP address, anything we can use to get the location where that photograph was made,” Runge said. “Her mother sent me a screenshot of the TikTok page, and I said, ‘Who’s this?’ And she said, ‘That’s my daughter,’ and I said, ‘Are you sure?’ She goes, ‘100%,’ and she said it looks like a recent photo.”
A disappearance tied to a cult
Police said four adults and two toddlers vanished in August 2023 from a house on Graham Lane in Berkeley after becoming followers of Rashad Jamal, an online cult leader now serving an 18-year prison sentence in Georgia for child molestation and child cruelty.
