‘Queen of Canada’ has preliminary inquiry delayed

The preliminary inquiry for the self-proclaimed “Queen of Canada” Romana Didulo has been pushed back more than a month.

The inquiry has been moved from March 2. It will now run from April 13 to April 17.

That delay comes as Didulo continues to wait for additional disclosure from the Crown.

The promptness of that disclosure was somewhat compromised by departure of Crown prosecutor Curtis Wiebe. He has been appointed as a judge for Provincial Court of Saskatchewan in Prince Albert.

Wiebe’s departure puts the case in the hands of Greg Lee, who will take some time to get up to speed on the file.

Lee requested a two-week adjournment to consider Didulo’s request for a loosening of her release conditions. On Feb. 4, Didulo asked the Crown to allow her mobility from her address in Regina, allow her to travel outside the province, and remove the RCMP’s ability to conduct warrantless searches on her.

Appearing by phone on Wednesday, Didulo objected to further delay on receiving disclosure and on her request for loosened conditions.

Judge Alan Jacobson reminded the leader of the “Kingdom of Canada” group that the Crown cannot present evidence at her preliminary inquiry that hasn’t been provided in disclosure.

Didulo will again appear by phone in Swift Current Provincial Court on March 4 for an update on disclosure and her request for altered bail conditions.

She is charged with failing to comply with the undertaking condition and with intimidation of justice system participants.
