Tom Cruise’s $9.5M Scientology penthouse dogged by unpaid contractor bills years after $3M makeover

Tom Cruise splashed out millions transforming his luxury Scientology penthouse – only to leave frustrated contractors chasing payments long after the work was done, a Daily Mail investigation has revealed.
The Hollywood star, 63, spent around $3 million on high-end fixtures and fittings at his sprawling Clearwater, Florida duplex, including custom-made, hand-crafted interiors, beginning in 2018.
Cruise purchased the lavish home – located on the ninth and tenth floors of the SkyView in downtown – for $9.58 million in 2017, after offloading a string of properties in New York, Hollywood Hills, and Beverly Hills in years prior.
But the lavish project was marred by repeated payment delays, with contractors forced to take legal action to recover what they were owed.
Contractors that provide supplies or labor on a real estate project have lien rights, says Darren K. Proulx, a strategic financing advisor at Real Estate Bees.
‘Most states have enacted laws that allow these entities to file what are called Mechanic’s Liens that can ultimately force a sale of the property to ensure payment to these unpaid vendors,’ Proulx explains.
