The documentary The Apocalyptic Sect of Antares de la Luz revisits one of the most controversial and dramatic stories of modern Chile. This infamous sect was involved in macabre rituals, including the ritual murder of a newborn baby in the Colliguay Hills. Through interviews, re-enactments and expert analysis, this film attempts to break down the events and beliefs that led to these extreme acts.
The Antares de la Luz sect, also known as Order of the Star, was founded by Ramón Gustavo Castillo Gaete, who claimed to be a reincarnation of an Inca god. His teachings blended esotericism, Gnosticism and astrology, promising spiritual purification through various rituals. These practices included “sacred” sexual acts, the use of psychedelic drugs, and intensive nocturnal ceremonies under the stars.
The sect is infamous for the ritual murder of a newborn baby in 2013, in the hills of Colliguay, near Valparaíso. The baby, the son of a member of the sect, was sacrificed in a ritual supposed to prevent an apocalypse that Castillo had predicted. Following the discovery of the child’s charred body, the case came to light, prompting international media coverage and a thorough investigation.
