The joint police-prosecution task force currently investigating alleged collusion with religious groups such as the Unification Church and Shincheonji searched the office of Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Chun Jae-soo on suspicion of destroying criminal evidence.

According to legal sources on the 11th, the task force executed a search warrant the previous day at the lawmaker’s office in the National Assembly Members’ Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul, among other locations. However, the warrant was executed only on aides and other office staff, and Chun was reportedly not included.

Earlier, on Dec. 15 last year, police searched Chun’s residence and National Assembly office on suspicion that Chun had received 20 million won and one luxury watch from the Unification Church.

At the time, the investigative team arrived at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building around 9 a.m., but because a National Assembly observer arrived late, the warrant was executed after 11 a.m. During that period, the sound of a paper shredder was heard from the lawmaker’s office, raising suspicions of evidence destruction.
