On the 25th, the special counsel investigating Kim Keon-hee requested an arrest warrant for Yoon, a former Deputy Minister of the Unification Church, who is suspected of soliciting complaints related to the Unification Church through Jeon Sung-bae. Yoon was reportedly regarded as the second-in-command of the Unification Church.
Prosecutors believe that Yoon, the former Deputy Minister, gave expensive gifts to Jeon to solicit various complaints from the Unification Church in 2022, the year Yoon Suk-yeol was inaugurated as president. Among the gifts Yoon reportedly handed to Jeon to be delivered to Kim Keon-hee were a Graph diamond necklace worth 60 million won and two Chanel bags worth 10 million won each.
Yoon was investigated for soliciting support for the Unification Church’s Cambodia Mekong River development project (Official Development Assistance), attracting the United Nations’ fifth office to Korea, supporting the acquisition of YTN, assisting the export of the ‘Saemaul Undong’ to Africa, and inviting Unification Church figures to Yoon’s presidential inauguration.
