NEW YORK (VINnews) — The efforts by rabbis, chasidic leaders, activists, and Guatemalan authorities to dismantle the Lev Tahor cult are gaining momentum. Another family has now left the cult, following extensive work with local authorities.

The parents and their six children are expected to leave for the United States or Canada in the coming days. However, they will remain in Guatemala until the legal process of child custody transfer is completed, which involves medical checks and standard legal procedures.

Notably, the father of this family is the son of a senior leader in the cult, making him the second son to escape from his father’s influence in recent weeks.

This marks the fourth family to leave Lev Tahor in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, a chasidic family who had been trapped in the cult managed to escape to the U.S.. After a legal battle supported by rabbis, activists, and former cult survivors, the parents secured full custody of their children in Guatemalan court.

Additionally, last week, a six-year-old girl left the cult and was reunited with her extended family in Israel.

As previously reported, on December 20, 2024, Guatemalan authorities raided the Lev Tahor compound in San Rosa, about 90 km from Guatemala City, following reports of abuse. During the raid, at least 160 minors were rescued. These children remain in protective custody, as they had suffered severe neglect, malnutrition, and abuse by cult members.
