Migori Man Confesses Joining Trending Cult-Like Church, Shares Chilling Experience: “Wengi Walikufa”

Migori – A chilling account has emerged as a young man, Francis Odongo Asewe, shared his harrowing experience inside a now-controversial religious sect believed to have cult-like operations.
The church, Malkio St Joseph’s Mission of Messiah in Africa Church, based in Rongo, has recently come under intense scrutiny following a deadly raid and revelations of deeply disturbing practices.
Francis, whose father, Elly Odoyo Nyachieo, died after sustaining injuries during a confrontation at the church, painted a dark picture of life inside the religious compound.
He described a church that demanded total obedience, severance from the outside world, and complete submission to the teachings of its leaders.
In a heartfelt confession, Francis narrated how his father was gradually consumed by the doctrines of the church, which demanded the faithful to shun hospitals, abandon romantic relationships, and cut ties with their families.
“They used to tell us, as members of the St. Joseph’s Mission of Messiah Church in Africa, that if you fell ill, you were not allowed to go to the hospital. If you got into an accident, you were not to be taken to the hospital, and if you died, you were not to be taken to the mortuary. You would stay there and be prayed for. If you died there, you would be buried right there, no coffins or anything like that,” Francis recounted.
Francis, who was once among the inner circle of the church, revealed how worshippers were subjected to intense prayer rituals held at least five times a day, starting from 9am until 9pm.
Members were instructed to disconnect from their relatives and warned of thunderstorms, sickness, or even death if they attempted to leave.
“And they also told us that once we had taken an oath to live within the church, if you tried to leave, there were certain penalties or consequences you would have to face. Some of those consequences included death, thunderstorms, or severe illness.
What disturbed me the most was that when someone died, it was not allowed for any family member outside the church to be informed. People were dying and being buried right there without any notification to their families. And there were no coffins used,” he said, his voice shaking with emotion.
