North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has displayed a large portrait of himself at a state awards event for the first time, according to NK News analysis of state media, the latest in a string of moves intended to boost his own cult of personality and diminish the stature of the former DPRK dictators.
The official Kim leadership portrait appeared hung behind the stage at the “second ceremony of awarding state commendations,” which was held at the Workers’ Party headquarters in Pyongyang on Aug. 29 for soldiers who died in the Russia-DPRK war on Ukraine, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) photos show.
