‘Justice’: Sister speaks as killer cult jailed

The sister of a young girl killed at the hands of religious fanatics – who left her to suffer and die for days after her insulin was taken away – says justice has been delivered for her “bright girl with big dreams”.
Jayde Struhs briefly fronted the media after watching her parents and members of a faith-healing cult known as The Saints be jailed for the manslaughter of Elizabeth Struhs, 8, back in early 2022.
Elizabeth’s parents – Jason Richard Struhs, 53, and Kerrie Elizabeth Struhs, 49 – have both been jailed for 14 years.
But even with the grave seriousness of the offending, some of the co-accused waved and smiled at each other from their individual docks while being led down to the cells one-by-one.
Outside court Jayde Struhs, who left the family home as a teenager, said: “Today, we got justice for Elizabeth.”
“The coercion and manipulation Brendan (Stevens) used to control not only his own family, but mine, is the most unforgivable and disgusting abuse of people’s vulnerability,” she said.
“As we move on from this chapter in our lives, we’ll begin to heal.”
Jayde paid tribute to her sister as a “young, bright girl” with “big dreams of helping others like her with diabetes”.
“Her kind soul and infectious laughter will forever hold a place in our hearts, as we remember her,” she concluded.
Elizabeth, 8, died between January 6-7, 2022 in her family’s Rangeville home, a suburb of Toowoomba.
In the days prior, Mr Struhs had withdrawn her lifesaving insulin as a test of his new-found faith in God.
The Saints believed she had been miraculously healed of type 1 diabetes after she presented with a normal reading, only for her condition to significantly worsen.
