Radical preacher Anjem Choudary appeared in court today accused of leading and directing the banned militant network Al-Muhajiroun.
Choudary, 57, and Canadian national Khaled Hussain, 28, were arrested last July for membership of the proscribed organisation.
The cleric was taken into custody by Metropolitan Police counter terrorism detectives in east London, while Hussain was arrested at Heathrow Airport.
Choudary appeared at the Old Bailey via video-link from HMP Full Sutton in Yorkshire wearing a beige t-shirt looking through a stack of notes while Hussain appeared in person.
He is charged with membership of a proscribed organisation, namely Al-Muhajiroun (ALM), and directing a terrorist organisation.
Choudary is also charged with addressing meetings of the Islamic Thinkers Society in a way which encouraged support for ALM.
Hussain is charged with membership of a proscribed organisation.
They are facing trial at Kingston Crown Court on 20 May 2024.
