A wave of violent cult clashes in Edo State has left at least four people dead, with incidents reported in Benin City and Auchi.

The deadly confrontations appear to be part of an ongoing supremacy battle among various cult groups in the state. Among the victims is a student from Auchi Polytechnic, who was attacked at the Campus One Gate. Other victims were found in different locations throughout Benin metropolis.

On Thursday, two individuals were killed in the Ogheghe area along the Benin-Sapele road, while another was shot at Ikpoba Slope along Akpakpava Road in the early hours of Friday.

According to an anonymous source, the victims killed on Thursday were tracked and executed by members of a rival cult group. “The assailants opened fire immediately upon sighting the duo, killing them on the spot,” the source revealed.

The victim at Ikpoba Slope was reportedly shot in the head while waiting to board a vehicle. The latest clashes are believed to be retaliatory attacks following previous cult-related violence in the state.

Confirming the incidents, Chidi Nwabuzor, Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, stated that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the killings. The police are intensifying their investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace to the affected areas.
