Former Twin Flames Universe members urge others to come forward amid investigation

LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich,. (WPBN/WGTU) — Twin Flames Universe, an online organization with ties to Leelanau County, is under investigation by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Nessel said she believes the actions of the group’s founders, Jeff and Shaleia Divine, may be illegal.
“My office, along with local law enforcement, the Michigan State Police, and the US Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General, executed search warrants on two residences as part of our investigation into Twin Flames Universe,” said Nessel.
The organization, which has been the subject of several documentaries, drew attention from the attorney general’s office in 2024. On Tuesday, state and federal investigators searched two northern Michigan homes, including the Leelanau County residence of the Divines. The Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a house on Cedar Run Road in Long Lake Township was also searched, although the sheriff’s office was not involved in the investigation. They were asked by the attorney general’s office to have a deputy stationed outside the house.
“Twin Flames is a largely online organization with leaders based in Leelanau County, Michigan, that allegedly uses force of control over its members, both in Michigan and across the United States,” said Nessel.
The investigation is not limited to Twin Flames Universe but also extends to any related organizations involving Jeff, Shaleia, Christine, and Jason Emerick. State records list Jeff Divine as the agent for several for-profit organizations. He’s also involved with a nonprofit known as the Church of Union. According to its website, the Emericks handle administrative and financial duties for the church.
“We believe that many of their actions may have been illegal,” emphasized Nessel.
“It was a huge victory for survivors all around the world, I think, to have that acknowledged by someone of her position within law enforcement,” said Keely Griffin, a former member of Twin Flames.
