Ex-members, parents rejoice after ‘religious cult’ slapped with teaching ban at West Leederville office space

Ex-members and parents of devotees of the Shincheonji Church have hailed a council’s decision to ban its building from becoming a legal teaching base as a positive step towards shutting down the religious sect’s activities in Perth for good.
Cambridge council this week unanimously refused a change-of-use application that would have given the group — known locally as International Education Office — permission to use its West Leederville office space as an educational establishment.
The group had been using it as such for more than a year, until a council crackdown in January brought the matter to a head and ultimately caused the IEO to apply to change the use of its building.
