Chad Daybell’s affair with Lori Vallow was exposed in emails and text messages read in court at the doomsday cult author’s triple murder trial.
Detective Nathan Duncan, who investigated the 2019 shooting death of Vallow’s fourth husband, Charles Vallow, revealed details of the communication in testimony on Monday.
Prosecutors said in opening statements that Mr Daybell and Vallow came to see his wife at the time, Tammy Daybell, and Vallow’s children Tylee Ryan, 16, and JJ Vallow, seven, as “obstacles” who were sometimes referred to as zombies.
Tammy died in October 2019. Weeks later, Mr Daybell married Vallow on a beach in Hawaii. Her children were missing for nine months before their remains wee found buried in on Mr Daybell’s Rexburg, Idaho property.
Prosecutors said Mr Daybell’s “desire for sex, power, and money” led to their murders. His defence attorney John Prior, however, said his client was manipulated by Vallow
Last year, Vallow was convicted in the three murders and sentenced to life in prison. Jurors heard how she, Mr Daybell and her late brother Alex Cox were fuelled, in part, by their bizarre cult beliefs.
