‘It was nonsense and lies’: Ex-Infowars staffer exposes Alex Jones’s ‘fake news machine’ – including staged stunts, drunken antics, and office chaos – in explosive new tell-all

As MAGA media turns against Donald Trump, it was only a matter of time before the president denounced the nation’s highest profile right-wing influencers as ‘losers,’ ‘troublemakers’ and ‘nut jobs.’
Name-calling aside, a new book sheds light on the real-life insanity surrounding the conservative right’s most bombastic pundit, Alex Jones, and Infowars, his guerrilla news operation.
‘It was nonsense, it was lies,’ writes Josh Owens, who spent four years editing and producing videos for the notorious conspiracy theorist.
Owens’s new memoir, The Madness of Believing, chronicles what he describes as Jones’s elaborate news stunts ranging from fueling false fears about nuclear fallout along California beaches to contriving an incident making it appear that he was denied the right to vote in 2016.
It takes readers step by cringe-worthy step through the alleged staging of a video meant to make it look like an operative of the Islamic State terror group was sneaking into the US from Mexico carrying a severed human head.
The book, released Tuesday by Grand Central Publishing, details claims of Jones’s drunken outbursts, verbal tirades, and times when he allegedly punched and even accidentally shot a gun toward his employees, later insisting he was just joking.
Owens also recounts something far more personal – how easy it was to get sucked into Jones’s vortex of paranoia and fear-mongering, and how hard it was to extricate himself from it and come to terms with his role in Infowars’ deceptions.
‘I was struggling with how I’d spent the last four years of my life. The scams I’d contributed to. The lies I’d helped spread. The people I’d harmed,’ he writes.
