This was revealed in over 30 interrogations, which were presented to the Members of Parliament this morning by the prosecutor’s office.
The state prosecution stated that they are providing the materials from the investigation to parliament due to the high public interest in the case, as well as the insistence of the co-chairs of “Yes, Bulgaria” Ivaylo Mirchev and Bozhidar Bozhanov.
“Epicenter” has become acquainted with the testimony given in the past ten days, after authorities discovered three murdered individuals near the “Petrohan” hut and on Monday, three more bodies were found in a camper at the peak of Okolchica.
PARENTS ALONE LEADING THEIR CHILDREN TO “LAMATA”
Disturbing revelations are being made by close relatives of the six individuals from “Petrohan”, who have been questioned for hours.
Massively, parents of three boys and one girl admit that they trusted Ivaylo Kalushev and voluntarily sent their children to him.
In the case of the 15-year-old Sasha, it becomes clear that he was literally abandoned by his parents, five years ago.
Shocking are the revelations of 10-year-old Leon, who was also interrogated, according to the protocol in the presence of a psychologist, as well as the girl, for whom it became clear from Kalushev’s final message to his mother. It turns out that almost all of the parents, who sent their children to Mexico and Petrohan, were involved in Eastern spiritual practices, meditations or hypnosis.
According to the parents, they were practicing Buddhism, but from their words it becomes clear that they were probably victims of a quasi-religious teaching, practiced by the “lama Kalushev” himself.
Some of the witnesses were interrogated twice – Sofia Andreeva and her son Valeri, who gave interviews this week, revealing numerous details about the life of the sect, Alexander Makulev’s father and the man who first discovered the three bodies in Petrohan on February 2nd. The two interrogations of mother and son provide a lot of details about the life of the group around Kalushev.
Valeri Andreev received a vibrator from Kalushev as a gift for his 17th birthday. Valeri reveals numerous intimate details.
First, the two lived in Kalushev’s house in the small village of Kraevo, where it turns out they were growing mushrooms that caused hallucinations when consumed. The man confirms that he became a target of sexual interest from Kalushev when he was around 15 years old, and for his 17th birthday he received a gift – a vibrator.
“The guru” asked the underage boy to shave his intimate areas and forbade him from thinking about relationships with girls.
In his testimony, the man reveals how the rift in their relationship came about after the appearance of another younger boy – Nikolay Zlatkov, who was found dead in the camper this Monday. Andreev claims that after Zlatkov arrived in Mexico, he became a target of attention from Kalushev.
SASHA BEZUHANOVA – GUEST AT KALUSHEV’S ESTATE IN MEXICO
The man reveals that in the estate in Mexico, which was purchased with money from his parents, famous personalities from Bulgaria often visited. He mentions the names of ecologist Atanas Rusev, as well as businesswoman Sasha Bezuhanova, who even visited Mexico with her daughter.
Bezuhanova herself announced a few days ago that she had funded the non-governmental organization of the group, which was registered in 2022. Under the name of the National Agency for Control of Protected Territories. This became known after municipal councilor Vanya Grigorova published information on Facebook about the donors for the inhabitants of the Petrohan hut.
Renowned art producer Asen Asenov has also visited Kalushev in Mexico, claimed investigator Valeri Andreev.
Asenov also confirmed that he was close with Kalushev and the others, even mentioning that every time he returned to Bulgaria, he visited the hut. Over twenty years ago, Asen Asenov produced television programs broadcasted on public television. During that time, he was a partner with publisher Ivo Prokopiev and together they published the magazine “Edno”.

The name of Asen Asenov is mentioned in other witness testimonies – of the girl who spent the last days with the deceased Ivaylo Kalushev, Nikolay Zlatkov and Alexander Makulev. It turns out that it was Asenov who introduced her father to Kalushev. The girl’s father points out that a long time after they met, Nikolay contacted his daughter through a mobile application. He explained that he had dreamt of her and that’s why he wrote to her. The girl has visited the hut in Petrohan, where she meditated. The girl’s father also shares about his acquaintance with art-producer Asen Asenov. After the death of the six, Asenov commented on Facebook that he knew the men and had even traveled with them abroad in the past.
ALEX MANULEV SENT BY HIS PARENTS TO KALUSHEV AT 10 YEARS
The questioning of the parents of 15-year-old Alexander Makulev may be a reason for them to be held criminally responsible themselves. It turns out that the mother and father of the murdered child had literally abandoned him five years ago when he was only 10 years old. The mother of Sasha, whose name is not known because the materials provided by the prosecutor to the deputies are with erased personal data, explains that after finishing 3rd grade, her son was sent to Ivaylo Kalushev. This happened because the family had trusted the “lama”.
Previously, their older son had lived in Mexico, and her husband Yan Makulev had also been to Mexico several times. The mother herself explains that she had known Kalushev for years, as she is also a Buddhist and had an interest in meditations. Yani Makulev, who before the body of his son was found, publicly stated that he believed in Kalushev and had no concerns for his son. He admits that he had given his 10-year-old Sashko to his acquaintance, as they had no way of taking care of him. The child was raised by the two Ivailovtsi – Kalushev and Ivanov, who even bought him clothes.
According to Yani Makulev, Sashko only saw his mother 2-3 times throughout the year 2025, and he himself last saw her in November 2025. From Makulev’s testimony – the father, it becomes clear that the child had hardly been attending school in the last five years. After being left in Petrohan, Sasha was initially enrolled to study online at a school in Mexico, but later Kalushev registered him to study at the private school “Kosmos” near Sofia. For this purpose, the parents gave a notarized power of attorney.
THE SINISTER DRAMA OF 10-YEAR-OLD LEON
Another of the investigations revealing the disturbing reality of life in the sect is that of 10-year-old Leon. It is his grandparents who, three years ago, alerted the authorities that they had concerns for their grandson, after the child was left with Kalushev and his group of parents. From the child’s words, it is understood that he was strongly attached to his family. He says that his best birthday was the one he spent with his grandparents in Pleven, because then “the whole family was together”. The boy cannot remember whether he was 6 or 7 years old at the time. He tells the story of traveling to Nepal with Kalushev, as well as to Europe with the sect.
During one of the trips, they had to sleep in a camper because there were too many people. That’s when the boy slept in the same bed with Ivaylo Kalushev.
Alexander Makulev’s sister testifies about the time she spent with her father and other brother at Kalushev’s in Mexico. There, she got close with Valeri Andreev and even exchanged a kiss with him. When Ivaylo Kalushev found out, he was deeply affected and accused the girl of doing something wrong.
Kalushev’s mother was also questioned by the police. Stella Dimitrova-Maystorova admits that she and her son often talked about death. Kalushev himself saw death not as the end of life, but as a reincarnation.
Father of the deceased Nikolay: My son was part of a cult
The father of another one of the deceased – Nikolay Zlatkov, tells about his visit to Mexico, where he went to search for his son and his mother. The man confirms to the investigators that for him, his son was part of a cult. He explains in detail the rude attitude of Kalushev towards him, who acted arrogantly when they met in Mexico. Although years later, back in Bulgaria, father of Nikolay had met his son, also named Nikolay, the two could not talk about women. His son explained that the circumstances in which he lived did not allow him to start a family. Nikolay’s mother was also interrogated, she explained that she met the “lama” Kalushev through hypnosis courses.
Parents or relatives of the other deceased men – Decho, Plamen, and Ivaylo, are much more concise in their statements. The reason – their contacts were limited. However, they all share that their loved ones had no girlfriends for years, but at the same time were fascinated by Buddhism.
THE SECT HIDES A HUGE ARSENAL OF WEAPONS
From the interrogations, it is revealed that the sect of “Petrohan” skillfully concealed the huge arsenal of weapons it possessed. None of the witnesses share having observed that Kalushev and the other men had multiple pistols and rifles.
VASIL TERZIEV FINANCES THE SECT
One of the most unclear questions remains the financing. The organization publicly claims that it has not received any state or public funding and that it has “100% private funds”. At the same time, it has weapons, motoroids, drones, uniforms, and serious logistics – expenses that require a significant financial resource.
Who has funded the NAKZT activity for the past four years of Petrohan’s expensive hunting weapons, rifles, pistols, expensive drones with thermal cameras, surveillance cameras, ATVs, motoroids, and expenses for the lodge?
No money was requested from the parents of Alexander Makulev, as well as from the mother of Nikolai Zlatkov. The mother and father of the girl, who was among the last to live with Kalushev, Alexander, and Nikolai, also claim that they did not give any money.
However, Sofia Andreeva and her son Valeri admit to numerous money transfers, but no one can calculate the exact amount, which according to the woman’s confession probably amounts to a million.
Sofia Andreeva shared that after her son returned from Mexico, he worked at a company that she connects with the mayor of the capital Vasil Terziev. However, she is not sure if at the time when Valeri Andreev worked there, Terziev was still the owner of the company or if he had already sold it to American investors.
The mayor, following the revelations that he had sponsored the National Agency for Protected Areas, also admitted to donating 80,000 euros to Kalushev. A significant amount that suggests Terziev was more than close and knew personally Ivaylo Kalushev, Ivaylo Ivanov, Decho, Plamen, Nikolay, and as it turns out, 15-year-old Alexander Makulev.
Vasil Terziev even shared that he had visited the hut with his children. Former eco-minister Borislav Sandov also stated that he had been to “Petrohan”
None of the two, nor any other public figures who have visited Kalushev and the group of men, have admitted to having suspicions of the existence of a sect or an unhealthy interest on the part of the “lama” towards young boys like Leon, Alexander, Nikolay and Valeri. The common factor among the four boys is that they have “met” Kalushev for the first time at the ages of 8, 10, 11, and 14 respectively.
Investigators have managed to access the mobile phone of “lama” Kalushev, despite it being repeatedly encoded and protected with various passwords. During the search, dozens of images and videos, as well as literature on sexual topics, including written notes related to “spritual purification and elevation through sexual relations” were discovered.
A reminder:
On August 23, 2021, (Minister Boyko Rashkov) MVR issues a permit to Ivaylo Ivanov for possession of 16 firearms. In one day – 16 weapons for one person!
On November 1st, 2021 (Minister Boyko Rashkov) MVR issued a permit to Ivaylo Kalushev for possession of two combat pistols – the “Glock” automatic pistol and the formidable “Colt Anaconda” .44 caliber “Magnum” revolver.
What does the law say: Issuing a permit for 16 firearms to one person in one day is a serious deviation from the standard practice of the COC-MVR service. The law does not limit the number, but the procedure includes a series of checks, which were possibly skipped or formally executed in this case. When requesting 16 at once, the person must demonstrate a specific status – for example, an active athlete in competitive shooting with multiple disciplines or a collector. Was Ivaylo Ivanov such a person?
