Kids Are Joining Cults in Roblox
Published By admin
While children used to do most of their socialization in the real world, nowadays, much of their daily communication happens online through games like Roblox.
This isn’t inherently a good or a bad thing. However, if the parents allowing their kids on the internet aren’t careful, they could be exposing them to some unsavory characters — specifically, cult leaders.
That’s right: Roblox has cults, and your child might be in one.
Among the most infamous of the Roblox cults is “Spawnism,” a pseudoreligion that’s emerged from a Roblox game called Forsaken. According to The Times, children are being led to believe that they’ll be given the power of reincarnation if they follow the in-game cult leaders’ instructions — including real-world self-destructive behavior.
Researchers allege that these cult leaders are targeting children using scripts personalized to their issues and insecurities, then asking them to engage in “initiation rituals” that are about as bad (or worse) as you think.
These researchers are now putting pressure on regulators to clamp down on such groups, though their efforts haven’t exactly been successful. The Times notes that “the largest Spawnism experiences on Roblox received between 12,000 and 72,000 visits to their servers in the past two months.”
Here’s a compromise: How about we just shut down Roblox?
