Amy Duggar King is standing by her truth.

After the reality star slammed her Uncle Jim Bob Duggar and Aunt Michelle Duggar’s Christian fundamentalist beliefs in Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, she shared insight into her decision to speak out.

“I didn’t worry about any kind of distraction or negativity that would come from it,” Amy exclusively told E! News. “I just focused on the truth. The truth, literally, is a light. And the light shines really bright in the darkness.”

The reality star—who appeared alongside cousins like Jana Duggar, Jessa Duggar and Jinger Duggar on 19 Kids and Counting—saw the project as her opportunity to denounce her extended family’s deep involvement in the Institute in Basic Life Principles organization.

She emphasized, “The more we talk about things like this, the more we can advocate for people who have been hurt by the church and by religious trauma.”
