3 LA Wildfire Conspiracy Theories That Are as Strange as They Sound

LA wildfire keeps growing, and so do the conspiracy theories, hate, and misinformation. Social media, especially X and TikTok, has become a toxic pool of conspiracy theories and hate campaigns against some communities. Studies suggest that social media algorithms have pushed the content to millions of users.

Let’s clear up some things first: Firefighters are not using women’s handbags to deal with the fires. Delta Smite, a small, endangered fish, didn’t set LA on fire. Diversity and equality is not the problem. With that out of the way, let’s look at some of them that we think are worth talking about.

It’s The Jews…Always Have Been

On X and Telegram, antisemites were quick to blame the Jewish community for the LA wildfires. It started with Stew Peters, a well-known right-wing conspiracy theorist, who made a post on X against the “Jewish Billionaires” Resnick couple. Peters accused the Resnicks, owners of the Wonderful Company, of “controlling” the water supply and causing water shortages for the firefighters.

On Telegram, antisemite Ali Alexander claimed that Jewish-owned insurance companies have been denying insurance claims to people who have lost their homes in the LA wildfires, triggering tropes of Jewish greed and wealth. Neo-Nazi Telegram groups like Blood Tribe and The American Futurist celebrated the burning of expensive Jewish homes and called it a divine act of God against the “Jewish overlords”, saying it was “well-deserved.”

This conspiracy theory was popular on TikTok with some posts even reaching up to 5.7 million and 1.3 million views in a day. These posts falsely claim that the LA wildfire was a way to cover up evidence in the Sean Diddy sex trafficking case. They claimed that his LA house was burned down in the fire and much evidence along with it.

In reality, his house is perfectly fine and the evidence was collected by the FBI in March of 2024. The LA mansion was put on sale in September 2024 for a price of $61.5 Million.
