A small Oregon town with an estimated population of only 37 people is the first in the state to become a Dark Sky Community, meaning an incorporated place where the quality of the night sky is preserved through lighting ordinances that reduce light pollution, education, and other measures. If this sounds like a commendable achievement, it is.

But this isn’t the first time Antelope, Oregon has been in the news. The town was once home to an infamous cult that committed a terrible crime, a legacy that makes Antelope one of America’s wildest cult sites and one of the darkest true crime spots in the world.
