Tom Cruise’s Scientology Patron’s Ball under fire for erecting massive supertent – putting a damper on his audacious helicopter stunt

Tom Cruise wouldn’t miss it for the world, it’s the biggest event on the Scientology calendar.
The Patron’s Ball is held at the Church’s British HQ every year, and this year – the 40th anniversary of the Scientology being founded there – has provoked backlash from the local authorities and protestors.
The Church of Scientology is under fire for constructing a huge marquee without planning permission at Saint Hill Manor in the town of East Grinstead, 50 miles south of London, DailyMail.com can reveal.
Drone footage shows the massive tent that they’ve had erected for their 3,000 expected guests.
But DailyMail.com has discovered the structure contravenes planning laws and now the local council has stepped in.
Last year, Cruise arrived for the gala flying his own helicopter.
To entice followers to pay thousands for a tickets, Scientology has been mocking up scenes from Mission Impossible to promote the event to its followers.
They have also tried to put a permanent ban on any protestors congregating outside Saint Hill – which was splashed in headlines last year when church opponents were pictured with banners and placards, embarrassing the Church in front of Cruise.
The Mid Sussex District Council issued a Planning Contravention Notice due to the size of the marquee.
This type of notice is issued if a council suspects that there’s been a breach of planning laws. A temporary structure doesn’t need planning permission if it’s less than 100 square meters and is removed within 28 days.
