A viral social media craze has hit Australia after two teenagers were arrested attempting to “speedrun” the Church of Scientology in Sydney.

The trend sees teens filming themselves storming religious buildings to see how far they can get before being intercepted by security, turning a gaming concept into real-world trespass.

Incidents overseas have led to injuries, arrests and police investigations.

Even outspoken Scientology critic Leah Remini has slammed the stunt.

“This trend creates chaos… and worst of all, it hands Scientology exactly what they want – the ability to position themselves as the victim,” Remini said.

The church says it is boosting security globally, calling the acts “organised trespass”.

Experts warn the behaviour is unlikely to slow, fuelled by views, virality and profit.
