MANILA, Philippines — Fugitive televangelist Apollo Quiboloy is still inside the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) compound in Davao City, according to regional police chief Brig. General Nicolas Torre III, as he revealed the discovery of an “underground area” where the religious leader could be hiding.
In a press conference on Sunday, Torre was asked about the whereabouts of Quiboloy and if the raid prompted the leader to leave the compound.
But Torre said they are “more than confident now,” that the fugitive is inside the compound.
He added they are still looking for the entrance of an “underground area” after he was asked about reports indicating that police are “digging” inside the compound.
“Hindi naman bubungkalin, hahanapin lang namin ’yung entrance. Alam na namin kung saan ’yung… may mga areas underground, it’s matter of time, matter of time (We’re not going to dig. We’ll just look for the entrance. We know where is it. There are areas underground. It’s a matter of time—a matter of time.),” Torre explained.
On Saturday, around 2,000 members of the Philippine National Police raided the KJC compound in Buhangin District, Davao City to serve arrest warrants for Quiboloy, who is wanted for child abuse, sexual abuse, and qualified trafficking cases.
Earlier Sunday, Davao police also reported that it rescued two alleged human trafficking victims inside the KJC compound on Sunday.
Authorities first raided the KJC compound last June 10, but members of the religious sect prevented them from entering.
