LEELANAU COUNTY, MI – Michigan’s attorney general has launched an investigation into an accused cult that has gained notoriety due to a Netflix docuseries.

Dana Nessel said Tuesday that a search warrant was executed at two residences associated with the Twin Flames Universe, an organization with a largely online following operated by Jeff and Shaleia Divine in Leelanau County,

Nessel’s office, along with the U.S. Department of Labor – Office of Inspector General, and law enforcement officers from Michigan State Police, the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office participated.

The investigation, launched under the authority of a judge finding probable cause that crimes have been committed, centers on whether the TFU used “coercive control” over its members in Michigan and across the U.S.

“We believe that many of their actions may have been illegal,” Nessel said. “Anyone with information about potential criminal conduct regarding Twin Flames Universe, or their members, are encouraged to contact my office, and may do so anonymously.”

TFU promotes itself as an online organization created to help people find their true love through spiritual practices and work centered around “aligning their consciousness with love.”

Netflix released a three-part series about the organization in 2023 called “Escaping Twin Flames.” The series featured interviews with former members, exploring allegations of coercive control, indoctrination and abuse.
