‘King of Queens’ Star Asks Fans for Help After Seeing Something ‘Deeply Alarming’

The King of Queens star is hoping that some of her 3.7 million Instagram followers were assist in reaching out to a local NBC affiliate after the station aired a 30-minute advertisement for Scientology—the community that Remini left in 2013.
“I need your help with something related to Scientology and hope you will read the next set of stories to learn how you can help,” Remini wrote on her Instagram Stories on Monday, Dec. 29.
The actress went on to explain that NBC LA ran an ad for Scientology, saying she was in “shock” when she saw it. Buying ad space on television isn’t something new for the religious group, but Remini said that the ad was pure propaganda.
“Someone who knows nothing about Scientology and happened to watch this program would not realize that it was a paid advertisement and might reasonably assume it was programming produced or endorsed by NBC, which could lead them into Scientology,” Remini wrote, adding that the advertised book Dianetics “masquerades as a mental-health book but is, in reality, an entry point into Scientology – a dangerous, fascistic organization that seeks to destroy the lives of its members and their families.”
“For a major network to present this material in this way is deeply alarming,” she added in another slide.
Remini has requested that those who agree with her reach out to NBC LA to “let them know what a serious mistake” they made and to “urge them to never again allow Scientology to purchase a block of airtime like this” again.
Remini included a link to a contact page for NBC LA where people are able to submit feedback.
Since leaving the Church of Scientology more than a decade ago, Remini has become an advocate against the group. She’s been very outspoken about the church, and is a leading critic of what Scientology stands for—and the people behind it.
