Jury selected in attempted murder case after judge says ‘Doomsday Mom’ fit for trial

Lori Vallow Daybell walked in and out of court on June 4, two days after she appeared in a wheelchair and said she was too sick to proceed with her attempted murder trial, delaying jury selection.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Justin Beresky on Wednesday ruled that Daybell was well enough to continue, and a panel of jurors was selected.
“Although the defendant expressed that she has a headache and is not able to proceed, she was able to fully advocate on her own behalf and … seems to be of sound mind and ability to proceed,” Beresky said.
The attempted murder trial was postponed twice due to Daybell’s health complaints.
She stands accused of conspiring with her brother, Alex Cox, to kill Brandon Boudreaux, the ex-husband of her niece, Melani Pawlowski.
In October 2019, a few days after Boudreaux’s divorce from Pawlowski, he was shot at by someone in a Jeep Grand Cherokee as he drove home from the gym. The vehicle was later tied to Cox, who died in December 2019.
