We all have different upbringings, but one woman has recently shared her challenging experience of growing up in a Mormon household. Kit Barrus, hailing from California, was brought up as a Mormon but later abandoned the religion to lead a radically different life.

If you’re not familiar with Mormonism, it’s essentially a Restorationist Christian religious and theological movement that emerged in the 1820s and 1830s. The faith diverges from traditional Christianity through its belief in living prophets, additional sacred texts and the potential for humans to achieve godhood. However, despite being immersed in the faith during her upbringing, Kit soon began to realise that this lifestyle wasn’t for her.

Now she’s revealed how she completely transformed her life, and got “the best revenge” on those who doubted her along the way. She is someone who simply wanted to forge her own path, and she’s not the first person to do so either.

With over 300,000 followers on Instagram, Kit has now established herself by embarking on a risqué career. It’s something that has changed her life in more ways than one.

Kit, now 27, explained that her family is Mormon, and she grew up in the church, attending most days as a child. She confessed it was “really weird” when she was young, as not many people were raised in the same way where she lived at the time.

She was as young as eight-years-old when she realised this wasn’t the path she wanted to take in life. Her family allegedly wanted her to be baptised, but she admitted it didn’t go so well.
