MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The arrest of a Conway teen accused of trying to join ISIS has raised lingering questions about how he allegedly became involved in the group, and a national cybersecurity expert thinks it is easier than it looks.

Daniel Fischer, 17, was arrested on June 9 on multiple terrorism charges. Arrest warrants said he allegedly planned to join ISIS for months and that federal agents recovered ‘electronic communication supporting terrorist activities.’

Thanks to the internet, it is easier than ever for adolescents to become radicalized online. In severe cases, it can lead them to commit violent crimes.

“If you continue to go down that rabbit hole and look, eventually you’re going to find [radical groups],” cybersecurity expert Ian Marlow said.

Fifteen-year-old school shooter Natalie Rupnow is just one example. Authorities say she shared neo-Nazi content online before opening fire last December at a Wisconsin Christian school

Marlow has conducted cybersecurity investigations internationally and said he’s seen radical groups in multiple corners of the internet.
