Former ‘cult member’ files lawsuit over land proceeds in sale

GRAND MARAIS, Minn. (Northern News Now) – A jury trial begins in Cook County Tuesday over proceeds from a plot of land formerly owned by a polygamous sect leader and his family.
The land in question is near Grand Marais and was previously owned by Seth Jeffs, who is the brother of Warren Jeffs.
Warren Jeffs is serving a life sentence for child sexual assault.
Seth Jeffs is also a convicted felon and a known polygamist.
After community concern about plans for the property, the Jeffs officially sold the land several years ago.
A woman named Elissa Wall is now suing the Jeffs, claiming she should get the proceeds from that land sale.
That’s because she, as a former member of what she described as “Jeffs’ Cult,” was forced to marry her cousin.
Wall previously won a $10 million lawsuit against Warren Jeffs, but according to court records, has not collected that money.
