Former Catholic priest sentenced to over 20 years in federal prison on sex abuse charge

COLUMBIA — A former Charleston priest who pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor was sentenced to 21 years and 10 months in federal prison.
Jaime Adolfo Gonzalez-Farias received the sentence Feb. 8, roughly six months after he confessed in court to traveling with an 11-year-old child across state lines to engage in sexual activity.
The official charge was transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. He was also charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a child and coercion of a minor, but those charges were dropped when he pleaded guilty on Aug. 10, 2023.
