It’s Australia Day, 2024, and Emily is watching a group of Neo-Nazis on the 6pm news.

Their leader, Thomas Sewell, is promoting white supremacy at a makeshift press conference.

Near him is a boy wearing a black face mask and sunglasses. Despite the disguise, Emily recognises him right away. It’s her teenage son Scott.

He’d told her he was going on a boxing trip with friends. Now he’s standing with one of Australia’s most notorious Neo-Nazis.

It’s rare for a parent to share the story of their child becoming radicalised.

But Emily says she has to speak out.

Her family and others have struggled to find support from the system that is supposed to help people turn away from extremism.

They fear that without change people will fall through the cracks, and violence could follow.
