Detectives elaborated on DNA evidence, interviews with the victim and financial motives tied to the 2019 shooting of Brandon Boudreaux as testimony resumed in Lori Vallow Daybell’s attempted murder trial.

Daybell, who is representing herself, walked into court on June 10 in a blue suit and with her usual armful of files and folders, but without the surgical mask she had carried on previous days.

Ryan Pillar, the lead investigator for Gilbert police in the October 2019 shooting, returned to the stand for further cross-examination by Daybell.

Daybell questioned Pillar about communications between Boudreaux and Melani Pawlowski, who is Boudreaux’s ex-wife and Daybell’s niece.

Pillar told Boudreaux to call Pawlowski to let her know what happened on the day of the shooting, but she didn’t answer, Pillar said.

After a juror question, Pillar explained that two calls Boudreaux made to Pawlowski were recorded and that he left a voicemail asking for her to call back.

On Oct. 3, Pillar testified he met with Pawlowski at the Police Department for about one hour.
