CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — A Chicago “psychic” has pleaded guilty to defrauding a customer by promising to remove a curse and stealing $72,000.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Jennifer Williams, 51, pleaded guilty to theft by deception and was sentenced to two years of probation and restitution in the amount of $25,000.

Prosecutors said in 2021, Williams tricked a 21-year-old California woman into believing she was under a supernatural curse and offered to remove it from large amounts of cash.

Authorities said Williams worked at three storefronts in the Chicago area.

In court, private investigator Bob Nygaard claimed Williams told the woman to transfer tens of thousands of dollars via Zelle and Venmo, and said she would remove the curse from the money and return it to the victim.

Authorities said the victim only received $300 back.
