Alex Jones, Family Sued in Bankruptcy Court Over Asset Transfers

Alex Jones, along with his family members, should hand over millions of dollars in cash and other assets that the conservative talk show host has shielded from creditors, a trustee said in bankruptcy court lawsuits.

Prior to filing for Chapter 11 in 2022, the outspoken conspiracy theorist and those close to him orchestrated several transactions designed to keep cars, cash, and real estate from being roped into his bankrupt estate, according to three complaints filed on June 13 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Jones owes families of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims more than $1 billion in court judgments related to his claims that the 2012 massacre was a hoax. He “understood he was facing massive liabilities and he went to extraordinary lengths to try to keep his non-exempt assets for himself, including sham transactions to transfer assets into entities that he believed would be beyond the reach of creditors,” Chapter 7 trustee Christopher Murray said in one of the lawsuits.

Jones’ wife, Erika Wulff Jones, and father, David R. Jones, are also named as defendants who took part in what the trustee called a “series of textbook fraudulent transfers.”

In the four years before his bankruptcy, Jones transferred some $2 million to his wife and father, along with luxury vehicles and a ranch, according to Murray. The Infowars host also moved “valuable real estate” to the Alexander E. Jones Descendant and Beneficiary Trust when he was insolvent, the trustee alleged in one of the suits.

In other complaints, Murray seeks to take ownership of a roughly $767,000 Austin condominium allegedly held in a Jones family trust, and interests in more than $1.4 million in funds transferred from one of Jones’ corporate entities to a separate personal trust.

“The Debtor’s asset protection schemes were often sophisticated attempts at shielding his assets and undertaken with the advice and assistance of professional advisors, friends, and family,” Murray said.

A lawyer for Jones didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Jones initiated his Chapter 11 proceedings intending to reorganize his assets and maintain control of his online media platform Infowars. But a trustee was put in charge of liquidating the estate last year after Jones failed to rally creditor support around a plan to reorganize his personal financial affairs and his talk show.

The liquidation process has been complicated by failed attempts to sell Infowars assets, as Jones has feuded with the trustee and the families of Sandy Hook victims over the sale process. Judge Christopher M. Lopez said earlier this month that the case has dragged on for too long and needs to be wrapped up soon.

Jones is represented by Jordan & Ortiz PC and Broocks Law Firm PLLC. The Chapter 7 trustee is represented by Jones Murray LLP and Porter Hedges LLP.

The case is In re Alexander E. Jones, Bankr. S.D. Tex., No. 22-33553, complaints filed 6/13/25.
