PUTRAJAYA – All of the 622 children rescued from charity homes linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) have been given protection, says Minister for Communications Fahmi Fadzil.

The government spokesman said the Cabinet was informed of the latest developments involving the rescued children at its weekly meeting on Oct 8.

The matter was presented to the Cabinet by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri.

“The ministers were informed that authorities have obtained court orders to provide protection for these children,” Mr Fahmi told a press conference on Oct 8.

In early September, the police launched “Ops Global”, raiding charity homes across Peninsular Malaysia linked to GISB, following allegations of child exploitation and religious misconduct.

As at Sept 30, some 600 children have been rescued from care homes operated by GISB, with the authorities having opened 80 investigation papers against the company.
