Faith-healing couple with Followers of Christ church face charges over death of baby

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A couple who belong to the Followers of Christ church in Oregon City face charges after a newborn died in June of last year.
The Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office filed criminal mistreatment charges against Taylor and Blair Edwards on Monday.
Members of the church believe in faith healing over traditional forms of medical care.
The details in the Edwards’ case weren’t immediately known.
News reports over the years have revealed that many children of parents who were church members have died because their parents relied on faith healing, not medical care.
The Edwards’ arraignment is scheduled for May 8.
