The head of the Unification Church, Han Hak-ja, who faces allegations of instructing a request for sect-related favors targeting former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife, was confirmed to have been hospitalized at Seoul Asan Hospital on the 4th ahead of a summons for investigation.

Han, the head, underwent heart surgery at Seoul Asan Hospital on the morning of the same day and is scheduled to be discharged as early as tomorrow. The Min Joong-ki Special Prosecutors Team had notified Han to appear for questioning as a suspect on the 8th. He is accused of conspiring with former Unification Church World Headquarters Director Yoon Young-ho to deliver 100 million Korean won in political funds to People Power Party Representative Kweon Seong-dong in January 2022, with the request to help resolve sect-related issues.

Even during the early stages of the investigation, Han reportedly requested the Special Prosecutors Team to lift an exit ban, claiming he needed to travel to the U.S. for heart surgery, but the request was denied. After receiving the summons, Han was hospitalized at a hospital owned by the Unification Church Foundation in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, before being transferred to a VIP room at Seoul Asan Hospital on the 3rd.
