ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Survivors of clergy sexual abuse in Rochester have accepted a $246 million settlement.
The Diocese of Rochester filed for bankruptcy after a 2019 law took effect. In 2022, over 450 claims of sexual abuse were filed in connection with the case against the Diocese.
Most of the claims were in response to the Child Victims Act, which exceeded the statute of limitations on sex abuse cases.
It was reported last week that there was a $120 million agreement between the victims and the Diocese. This brought the total amount of compensation to $246.35 million.
The survivors of the sex abuse in this case told News 8 they voted to accept, and it was an “overwhelming acceptance.”
