What to make of the reported love affair between Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas?

Many questions swirl around the supposed romance of these two A-listers. Is it just a PR stunt, similar to how Cruise’s supposed romance with Hayley Atwell, his  “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” co-star, could have all been publicity for that movie.

Both Cruise and de Armas have big movies coming out in the next few weeks they need to be promoting. Cruise, 62, premieres the expected final installment of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise at the Cannes Film Festival next week. Meanwhile, the  Cuban-born de Armas, 37, stars in the John Wick-adjacent action thriller, “Ballerina,” which opens June 6.

But the Daily Mail has been pushing the story that Cruise and de Armas, 37, have been romantically linked since Valentine’s Day. They’ve been “jet-setting around together” between Madrid and London, where they “narrowly escaped swarms of paparazzi outside David Beckham’s 50th birthday bash” last weekend. The Daily Mail said that Cruise even plans to take the Bond girl as his date to the Cannes screening of “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.”

Cruise and de Armas “are clearly willing to give their budding romance a chance,” the Daily Mail said. However, they face serious challenges, the publication acknowledged.

There’s the age difference, of course. But a bigger potential roadblock has to be Cruise’s well-known adherence to the controversial Church of Scientology, as the Daily Mail reported.

Over the past 20 years, news reports have portrayed Cruise as one of the most powerful people in the cult-like organization, and all three of his ex-wives practiced Scientology when they were married to him. Mimi Rogers reportedly introduced Cruise to Scientology, but quietly left the organization sometime after their two-year marriage ended in 1989.

Both Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes reportedly dedicated themselves to studying the teachings of founder L. Ron Hubbard, but Scientology insiders have revealed that the organization was a factor in the demise of their respective relationships with Cruise — which should be a red flag for any woman getting involved with him.

After Kidman reportedly refused to devote herself to the church, Scientology leaders worked to hasten their break-up in 2001 and reportedly turned their children against her.

Meanwhile, multiple reports say that Holmes filed for divorce in 2012 because she was concerned about the church having an outsized influence over how they raised their daughter, Suri. Holmes got full custody, and Cruise is known to be estranged from his daughter, now 19, because she did not become a Scientologist.

“Tom’s controversial past would be enough to make any potential lover put up the guardrails,” the Daily Mail reported.

An insider told the Daily Mail that de Armas is “enamored” with Cruise, but her friends are torn, and her Catholic family members have concerns about his unconventional beliefs. “His Scientologist beliefs are not a deal breaker for Ana. She knows her family wouldn’t approve, but she is her own woman,” the insider said.

De Armas also seems somewhat attracted to complicated men or situations. She and Ben Affleck, her co-star in the erotic thriller “Dark Water,” became paparazzi favorites while they dated and lived together in Los Angeles during the COVID-19 lockdown.

More recently, de Armas faced massive backlash for dating Manuel Anido Cuesta, the 26-year-old stepson of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who is widely regarded as an authoritarian leader, overseeing a repressive regime in the communist island nation.
